Oktoberfest was less than a week ago and I am already in full swing working on Craft Patch Craft Show, December 3 and 4. Oktoberfest 2010 was a great success and hope to have pictures posted soon. Craft Patch planning is in full swing. All of the booths are full, with our returning favorite crafters and a few new ones. We will have over 130 booths this year. Our largest show ever and the largest it can be, there is no more room in the Pavilion. I will be listing soon the crafters that will be attending Craft Patch 2010. Check back soon for updates.

Tina Cochran – Golden Heartland Alpacas

Golden Heartland Alpacas is a 25 acre alpaca ranch in Adrian MO. This “alpacas boy’s club” is home to 20 alpacas, Joshua the llama and a variety of cats, dogs and goats. The alpaca spend each year growing fiber that is sheared in the spring and spun into yarn in a variety of natural colors. Each year, Golden Heartland offers for sale, raw fiber, yarn, teddy bears, baby items, hats scarves and more!

Tina has been crocheting for more than 30 years, she has been working with alpacas for 4 years. “Alpaca is my favorite fiber, it’s lighter and warmer than wool and often people who are allergic to wool can wear alpaca instead. Our boys provide us with so much peace and enjoyment I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else”

Boutique Style Clothing and Accessories for 18” Dolls

I made my first doll clothes when I was 7 and you might say, “I’ve come a long way, Baby!” Those first seams were glued together! When my mom saw how much I wanted to make doll clothes, she started teaching me to sew, first by hand and eventually on her machine. When I was 12, Santa brought me a machine of my own! I’ve been sewing ever since (and it’s been a long time!) I make everything from home décor items to wedding dresses, but I rediscovered my first love of doll clothes last Christmas when I made some pj’s and a robe for my friend, Margaret to give to her grand-daughter.

I was so excited to be accepted as a crafter for the craft patch shows. For years, I have attended and purchased tons of gifts so I’m really looking forward to participating as a crafter.

My doll clothes range from swim suits to Halloween costumes, coats with real mink trim, pj’s and robes and even a trunk full of dress-up clothes. I also have sleeping bags and mini-quilts. They are crafted with love and sturdily constructed. They are meant to be played with! I have altered many of the patterns to make them easier to put on and take off, many have Velcro closures as well. Most outfits come with a special accessory such as a hat, headband, hair bows, shoes, boots or skates. My newest adventure is matching lounge shirts for dolls and their girls. I have also have mother-daughter-doll apron sets. They are sooo cute and make great gifts!

Oktoberfest crafter-Ann Dahl

I met Ann this summer at the Kansas CityFarmers’ market. She makes the greatest pictures, signs, whatever you want to call them with old license plate numbers and letters. She will do custom designs or she has some really cool one already for sale. Not only is her art really great, so are here prices. Be sure and come by Ann’s booth at Oktoberfest and welcome her to the show and check out her great art work.

My problems with blogging

I have decided that I am not a blogger or at least not comfortable yet with blogging. Don’t get me wrong I would love to blog everyday with new info for you about the craft shows. The problem is that I have a real mental block with being able to post the pictures that go with the blog, so in turn I don’t blog. My daughter in law is a great blogger and have a wonderful site called, Everything is Homemade, she has offered many times to show me the ease in posting pictures, but I refuse, instead just wanting to sit and visit with her and my son. I am going to learn really soon, I promise, how to post pictures with my blog easily. Now, if I want to post the pictures with my blog it takes me all day and they don’t go into the blog the way I want. I really wanted to post some blogs about some of my talented crafters that will be at my next show, Oktoberfest, but the picture thing has really slowed me down. So, I will at least blog about the ones have sent me their info and pretty pictures, so you will be as excited as I am to see them at the show. Stay tuned, tomorrow I will blog about one of my new crafters, Ann Dahl that will be at Oktoberfest.

FEATURED ARTISTS JENNY AND SKIP ALEXANDER

Today is the first of one of the featured artist from the Oktoberfest Show. Jenny and Skip have been doing the show for several years and are always coming up with new designs of their handcrafted jewelry. Hope you enjoy the blog and the pictures.

Jenny Alexander jewelry is a unique blend of Swarovski Crystals, lamp work and glass beads, semi-precious gemstones, sterling silver, fine silver, pewter, and gold; created by a husband and wife team who love to create with their hands.

Some pieces are playful, bold with lots of color and some pieces are simple yet very beautiful. You can wear our line of jewelry with confidence knowing that it is a unique piece of art, well-made and not mass-produced. “We hope everyone enjoys wearing our creations as much as we have enjoyed creating them.”

Jenny made macaroni necklaces as a child, like most children do. But her love for many years was drawing and painting. It wasn’t until 2002, when she discovered beads and a love for jewelry. She has been designing and creating her own line of jewelry ever since. What she loves most is seeing other people wearing her art. “It brings a smile to my face every time.”

In 2005, Jenny’s husband, Skip, joined her for a lamp work bead class. He has been creating with her ever since. They have also taken classes in Fused Glass and Borosilicate Glass together. They spend many hours perfecting their skill so that they can bring you quality handmade Glass Art beads and pendants.

In October 2007, Skip began taking Metal Smith classes from Genevieve Flynn, a Metal Smith/Jeweler in downtown KC, MO. Some of his rings were featured in the Kansas City Star Magazine in May of 2010.
